NBSA Board Chairman, Prof. Abba Zubair, Charges Staff on Excellence and Continuous Improvement

The Board Chairman of the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), Professor Abba Zubair, has called on staff of the agency to embrace excellence, patriotism, and continuous improvement in their service to the nation.

Speaking during an engagement with management and staff at the agency’s headquarters, Prof. Zubair acknowledged the significant changes already recorded in the NBSA but stressed the need for greater commitment to moving the country forward. “Whatever we do, we must do it well—with continuous improvement,” he said.

He decried the culture of blame-shifting and buck-passing, urging staff instead to adopt a proactive and solutions-driven mindset. He encouraged the team to bring forward workable feedback that would strengthen systems and accelerate institutional progress.

The meeting afforded Prof. Zubair the opportunity to receive direct feedback from departmental and unit heads, which he described as beneficial guides for the agency’s future direction. He also urged staff to take advantage of blood-related conferences and emerging knowledge platforms, while commending the agency’s commitment to conducting relevant research in transfusion medicine and blood services.

Earlier, the Director-General of the NBSA, Professor Saleh Yuguda, welcomed the Board Chairman and expressed optimism that his guidance and vision would further inspire the agency’s mission of ensuring safe, available, and accessible blood for all Nigerians.
