The events will commence with a Road Walk and a Novelty Football Match on June 13 at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, serving as a platform to engage the public and promote the significance of regular blood donation.

A Ministerial Press Briefing is scheduled for June 14, where the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare will highlight the government’s initiatives to ensure the availability of safe blood and honor the contributions of voluntary donors nationwide.

The Conference and Stakeholders Meeting on June 17–18 will bring together policymakers, health professionals, donor groups, and civil society organizations to discuss strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s national blood system.

Complementing these events is an Intensive Blood Drive Campaign running from June 2 to 20, targeting corporate organizations, educational institutions, faith-based groups, and the general public to boost the national blood reserve.

Prof. Saleh Yuguda, Director General of NBSA, emphasized the agency’s commitment to achieving 100% voluntary non-remunerated blood donation in Nigeria. He stated, “Every unit of blood donated voluntarily is a step toward saving lives and ensuring no one dies due to lack of access to safe blood.”

World Blood Donor Day is observed globally on June 14 to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts.
