NBSA Supports NYSC’s Free Medical Outreach in Dutse Alhaji, Boosting Rural Healthcare Access

The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to community health and grassroots outreach by actively supporting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during a recent free medical outreach held at LEA Primary School, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja.

The medical mission, under the NYSC’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) program, brought much-needed healthcare services to the underserved community, with NBSA providing critical technical support. Representing the Agency, Prof. Sanni Adamu led a medical team consisting of a doctor and a nurse to assist in patient screening and diagnosis, significantly enhancing the efficiency and quality of care provided.

The event featured general medical checkups, health education, and free distribution of medications to residents, many of whom lack regular access to basic healthcare. The presence of NBSA health professionals ensured thorough assessments and improved case management for beneficiaries, particularly in identifying urgent medical needs.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Adamu emphasized NBSA’s ongoing dedication to supporting frontline health initiatives across Nigeria, noting that partnerships like this one with the NYSC are crucial in bridging healthcare gaps in rural areas. “Our collaboration with NYSC reflects NBSA’s wider mission of promoting accessible, quality healthcare, especially in communities where health services are limited,” he said.

The outreach also witnessed strong community engagement, with village heads, traditional chiefs, and NYSC leadership—including Alhaji Ikaka Ahmed Wada, NYSC’s Director of Planning, Research and Statistics—gracing the occasion.

Residents expressed gratitude for the initiative, citing improved awareness of personal health and access to professional medical advice as key benefits. Community leaders lauded both NBSA and NYSC, urging continued collaboration to sustain similar interventions.

As part of its strategic goals, NBSA remains committed to leveraging partnerships to ensure no Nigerian is left behind in the drive toward universal health coverage. The Agency continues to explore innovative ways to support grassroots health campaigns, particularly in blood services, emergency response, and rural health development.

With more HIRD programs scheduled nationwide, NBSA is poised to play a central role in delivering life-saving healthcare to Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations.
