NBSA Partners with Unimaid to Boost Blood Donation Awareness

In a bid to strengthen blood donation awareness and increase voluntary participation, the Nigerian Blood Service Agency (NBSA) Maiduguri North-East Zone has engaged the University of Maiduguri (Unimaid) in a new partnership aimed at saving lives.

Led by Zonal Director Dr. Mohammed Kabiru Ahmed, the NBSA advocacy team met with Unimaid’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, to discuss ways the university can support ongoing blood donation initiatives. The team highlighted the growing need for voluntary blood donors to help patients in critical medical conditions, including those undergoing surgeries and emergency treatments.

Professor Mele welcomed the initiative, pledging the university’s full support. He emphasized the role of Unimaid in community service and assured that the institution would use its platforms to promote blood donation awareness. Plans are already in motion to organize blood drives and sensitization programs targeting students, faculty, and staff.

This collaboration is expected to improve the blood donation culture in Maiduguri and beyond, providing much-needed support to hospitals and healthcare facilities.

With this renewed commitment, NBSA and Unimaid hope to drive a lasting culture of voluntary blood donation, ensuring a steady supply for those in need.
