Galaxy Backbone Partners with NBSA to Enhance Safe Blood Availability in Nigeria

Galaxy Backbone Limited has pledged its support to the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) in an effort to modernize blood donation and transfusion services across Nigeria through ICT-driven solutions. As part of this collaboration, Galaxy Backbone will support NBSA’s Integrated Blood Management System (IBMS), a digital platform designed to network all blood establishments, hospitals, and clinics involved in blood transfusion services. By leveraging technology and automation, this initiative aims to streamline processes, improve coordination, and address the persistent shortage of safe blood nationwide.

The Director General of NBSA, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, has called on Galaxy Backbone to provide technical support in key ICT areas, including elastic cloud services to enhance operational capacity, ICT staff training to strengthen technical expertise, cloud storage and cybersecurity solutions for secure data management, development of a Donor Engagement Application to facilitate donor participation, creation of a centralized donor database with a unique identification system, and provision of high-speed internet connectivity to improve efficiency.

Speaking on behalf of Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director/CEO, Prof. Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, the Executive Director of Customer Centricity and Marketing, Hon. Olusegun Olulade, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring safe blood availability across Nigeria. He emphasized the critical role of blood in the health system and reiterated Galaxy Backbone’s dedication to sustainable digital solutions that support the NBSA’s mission. Hon. Olulade also described NBSA’s proposed Donor Engagement Application as a landmark project for Nigeria’s healthcare sector. The app will enable blood donors to book donation appointments, receive notifications on donation schedules, locate the nearest blood banks, and track their donation history.

As a regular voluntary blood donor, Hon. Olulade urged NBSA to consider technology that enables instant blood testing, which would help simplify the donation and collection process. In response, Prof. Saleh Yuguda reaffirmed NBSA’s commitment to modernizing blood services and ensuring universal access to safe blood across Nigeria. He urged Galaxy Backbone to provide continuous support in improving the agency’s operational efficiency, a move that will significantly contribute to saving lives nationwide.
